We have been one of the Southeast's foremost providers of comprehensive rehabilitation care since 1964. We provide inpatient and outpatient services at two primary locations and accept multiple healthcare plans.
Spain Rehabilitation Center (SRC) is the hub of activities for the Department. As an integral part of UAB Health System, Spain Rehabilitation Center offers a level of care that is unsurpassed in Alabama. Spain Rehab is a 47-bed rehabilitation hospital featuring advanced, individualized care for adolescents and adult patients recovering from a broad variety of health problems.
The Workplace at UAB Highlands,provides comprehensive job-related injury management and rehabilitation. The Workplace has been a valued resource for Alabama employers since 1990. The facility is equipped to reduce employer liability and increase employee productivity and also offers a 24-hour emergency room.

A Physiatrist is a doctor who specializes physical medicine and rehabilitation. Our physiatrists are Board Certified and direct our primary treatment team that includes:
- Licensed Psychologists and Neuropsychologists who develop and apply treatment strategies in counseling patients and their families:
- Certified Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses who provide patients with advanced healthcare services and education:
- Physical Therapists who help improve overall health and restore functional skills and abilities such as bed mobility, transfers, walking, range of motion, and balance:
- Occupational Therapists who utilize adaptive equipment such as splints and braces to improve activities of daily living and help patients with problem solving, safety awareness, money management, and other issues:
- Speech-Language Pathologists, sometimes called Speech Therapist, who work with people who have problems with swallowing, sounds, rhythm and fluency, and voice: and
- Social Workers who work with patients and families to identify problem issues in their time of need and link them to essential resources.
