The Division of Neuropsychology offers a wide range of adult assessment services. Our highly trained staff is skilled in assessing persons referred for a variety of conditions such as dementing illnesses (Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, etc.), stroke, traumatic brain injury, psychiatric disorders, pre/post surgical evaluation, and a host of other medical and psychological reasons.
Persons referred to Neuropsychology receive a complete evaluation of many areas of cognitive functioning, including:
- Intelligence and academic skills
- Problem-solving and conceptualization
- Planning and organization
- Memory, learning, and attention
- Language and speech
- Perceptual and motor abilities
- Personality, emotions, and behavior
The Division of Neuropsychology offers specialized competency assessment services in the areas of treatment consent capacity, financial capacity, testamentary capacity, vocational capacity, and capacity to live independently.
The Division also provides comprehensive pre- and post-operative neuropsychological assessments for the UAB Epilepsy Center's surgery program. Other clinical activities include assessment of speech lateralization, inpatient diagnostic assessment of pseudoseizure patients, and outpatient psychotherapy services for patients with epilepsy.
