The Center for Neurodegeneration and Experimental Therapeutics (CNET), located in the Civitan International Research Center, was established February 2, 2007 by UAB (following action taken by the Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama System) to promote the discovery of novel treatments for neurodegenerative disorders, to teach scientists and clinicians about these diseases, and to facilitate the application of these discoveries to clinical care of patients.

These neurodegenerative disorders include Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson disease, Huntington disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, known as Lou Gehrig’s disease), and other less common neurodegenerative disorders that occur more frequently with advancing age.
