Visiting Students

Senior Medical Students that wish to take a clinical elective at any of the campuses of UAB must complete the application process.

 

  • Applications are not accepted until April 1 prior to the academic year requested.
  • Applications are not reviewed until UAB Clinical student schedules are finalized in June prior to the academic year requested.
  • Students must be in the final year of training at their home school OR students must have completed one year of core clerkship rotations. 
  • The maximum length of participation is two (2) months.
  • It is the students' responsibility to ensure that all application materials are complete. Students with incomplete applications will not be scheduled, and will not participate in any courses.
  • Applicants must be actively enrolled in a program leading to an MD or DO.
  • Applicants must be paying tuition to their home school during the time they will be attending courses at UAB.
  • Applicants must have the approval of the administration of their home school to attend courses at UAB.
  • Applicants must complete the appropriate EXTRAMURAL APPLICATION located at the links below.
  • International Students, in addition to the above:
    • Will not be accepted without the sponsorship of a UAB School of Medicine Faculty. It is your responsibility to find a UAB faculty sponsor who will submit a letter of support.
    • Must visit using the J-1 Visa Short-Term Scholar. This is a UAB School of Medicine requirement.
    • Must take one of the following TOEFL Tests passing with the following minimum scores:
      • iBT (internet based) Score of 100 with a minimum of 22 on the Speaking Section
      • Paper Based Test Score of 600

All Applications must be submitted complete through the mail.   Partial Applications will not be accepted.  Please hold your application until every item on the check list is complete and included with your application.  (Faxed or e-mailed Applications will not be accepted.)
