In medical school, every moment seems to be a learning experience. The days are long, consisting of lectures, exams, and late-night study sessions. But many SOM students squeeze yet another education opportunity into their demanding schedules, joining extracurricular groups focused on particular medical specialties and personal interests. Most students discover that it's time well spent. The student-run organizations- currently numbering 12, with as many as 80 members in some groups- explore the possibilities of early specialty through clinics, conferences, and mentorship programs. But many members also use the opportunity to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow students and serve the community.
